ANGELUS PLAZA TO PRESENT ERNIE ANDREWS

On Friday, July 20th AT 2:00 p.m., Angelus Plaza’s Senior Activity Center will host An Afternoon of Jazz with classic crooner, Ernie Andrews. His prolific

quartet, features bassist Richard Simon; Lanny Hartley on piano; reedman Rickey Woodard, drummer Fritz Wise and legendary vocalist, Ernie Andrews.

A native of Philadelphia, Ernie headed west and attended Jefferson High School,

under the watchful eye of Samuel Browne, the nurturing music teacher who inspired Dexter Gordon, Chico Hamilton and countless others.

Ernie’s stellar career emerged during Central Avenue’s heyday when he won an amateur contest at the Lincoln Theatre. Ernie has performed with trumpeter Harry James, Cannonball Adderley, and The Frank Capp-Nat Pierce Juggernaut Band, etc. With his robust pipes, Ernie can swing like a gate, belt out the blues or interpret a heartfelt ballad.
